The course nestles among beautiful woodland with old beech and Oak trees lining each hole. With an overall length of around 6,400yards and a par of 70, Arcot Hall offers a fair challenge to all levels of golfer, including novices, yet is a fine test for the more experienced golfer.
The course displays typical Braid features, the first nine holes are in an inner loop running more or less clockwise, and the back nine form an outer loop running anti-clockwise. Also typical of Braid are the dogleg holes, which he is said to have pioneered. The doglegs and tree-lined fairways add up to a course that calls for accuracy off the tee and careful course management.
The course has five par three holes, each of which presents its own challenge. Most are quite long, ranging from 160 yards to 212 yards with often unpredictable wind influence as the tee shot emerges from the shelter of trees. Club selection is key. The ninth, the course’s signature hole, is one of the most attractive par threes anywhere.
